Benchmarking Methodology WG (bmwg) Thursday, November 11 at 0900-1130 ===================================== CHAIRS: Kevin Dubray Al Morton AGENDA: 0. Agenda bashing (we may need to shuffle a few items) 1. Working Group Status (Chairs) Especially conterm, ospf*, dsmterm, ipsec term, and benchres term drafts. Check the BMWG mail archive for comments: http://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/working-groups/bmwg/current/ 2. Revised Milestones. (Chairs) 3. IGP Data plane convergence benchmark I-Ds. Changes from 03 to 04 to address comments raised at WGLC and last meeting. Ready for Last Call? (S.Poretsky) http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-bmwg-igp-dataplane-conv-term-04.txt http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-bmwg-igp-dataplane-conv-meth-04.txt http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-bmwg-igp-dataplane-conv-app-04.txt 4. Techniques for Benchmarking Core Router Accelerated Life Testing. Changes to Methodology, based on meeting comments. Changes to Term. Where is WG input sought? Issues? Comments? Concerns? (S. Poretsky et al.) http://www.ietf.cnri.reston.va.us/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-bmwg-acc-bench-term-04.txt http://www.ietf.cnri.reston.va.us/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-bmwg-acc-bench-meth-01.txt 5. New Work on Hash and Stuffing (it's "On our Plate") This work was embraced at the last meeting, and there were no objections on the list. This draft includes feedback from the last meeting. What else is needed here? (T. Player and D. Newman) http://www.ietf.cnri.reston.va.us/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-bmwg-hash-stuffing-01.txt 6. Resumption of work on the FIB methodology with new editors. Changes in this new, heavily revised version (J.Dunn) http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-bmwg-fib-meth-02.txt (The tombstone may still be here, watch for updates) 7. IPv6 Benchmarking Introduction A short summary of IPv6 concepts and testing requirements (J.Dunn) 8. New Work Proposal on WLAN Benchmarking Methodology Recognizing growing deployment of 802.11* wireless subnets, the authors have prepared a draft on methodology and ask if BMWG has sufficient interest (e.g., expertise, readership, participation) to support this topic as a work item. (Chairs, S.Bradner) Related Draft: http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-alexander-wlan-meth-00.txt We have the following description from the draft's Introduction: This document defines and describes a specific set of tests that may be used by vendors and users of IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN (WLAN) [802.11] devices to measure and report the performance characteristics of the WLAN devices. It extends the methodology that were originally defined for benchmarking network interconnecting devices in RFC 2544 [RFC2544], and then subsequently extended to other types of devices (such as LAN switching devices in RFC 2889 [RFC2889]), to cover WLAN devices. Wireless LANs may be characterized as using a complex, rate-adaptive protocol designed for shared media access and subject to numerous environmental influences, many of which are outside the control of the end-user. The tests in this document are therefore intended to provide a means of comparison and evaluation, rather than absolute measures of performance in an arbitrary end-user environment. 9. "Old" Work Proposal on Protection Switching Methodology The WG has discussed this item at several previous meetings. Generic Sub-IP and MPLS proposals can now be re-combined into one using a common terminology. Is there any progress here? Is there still enough interest in this proposal to generate solid review and discussion? Should BMWG take it up? (Chairs, S.Poretsky, et al.) Drafts related to this proposal: Draft on MPLS Protection Benchmarking Methodology http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-poretsky-mpls-protection-meth-03.txt Automatic Protection Switching Benchmark Terminology, Expired, see http://www.watersprings.org/pub/id/draft-kimura-protection-term-02.txt Please help contribute to a successful meeting by reading the above I-D(s) and references *before* we meet.
