Dear Sirs,
I am an Electical engineering student at Tulane University, with special interest in Data Communications. I am currently doing independent study in Transmission of IP packets over LocalTalk networks. I would be obliged if you people could point me in the right direction as to where I might pick up a free copy of the following paper:
Sidhu, Andrews and Oppenheimer, "Inside Appletalk, Second Edition",
Addison Wesley, May 1990Any help would be highly appreciated,

Thanking you in advance,

Sincerely,
Indrajit Ghosh

Given that Inside AppleTalk is a regular bookstore book, I would
be surprised you were able to find a source of free copies. You
may be able to borrow one from your professor? That, or you'll
have to stop by your local computer bookstore, and pay for one.

However, LocalTalk and AppleTalk only provide a fraction of
what's necessary. There is a [sort-of not quite] undocumented
protocol to do this: MacIP. The IETF is converging on a document,
and a version can be found on ftp.novell.com. A new version is
coming shortly. An alternative proposal for running IP directly
on LocalTalk can also be found.

	ftp.novell.com(137.65.12.2):/ietf/macip.txt and iplt.txt.

	Have fun!

	Chris

Subject: An AT WAN book...

I am looking for a good book on AT Wide Area Networking. I am interested in
optimising our network, which is a combination of X.25, and Cisco routers
connected with serial lines. AT is routed by the Ciscos, but also routes
through both DECnet and IP tunnels. DECnet and IP is partly over X.25 and
partly over Cisco.

I am struggling to start, as I do not really know the rules of AT.

I would be grateful if you could help me.

Sorry to clutter these lists, but has anyone been successful in having ANF
get back in touch with them? Despite having called (415) 966-5055 several
times, and leaving messages, I've received no response.

Is there another vehicle by with ANF may be contacted?

Thanks,

Subject: SNMP over AppleTalk status?

What is the status of SNMP over AppleTalk? I just noticed that the
current draft has expired!! The reason I looked was that someone
asked about SNMP over AppleTalk (why was it that their FastPath was
registering for "SNMP Agent") and I wanted to quote the RFC number boy
was I surprised that it wasn't yet an RFC!!

To all,
I, too, have called multiple (three) times to ANF, leaving a full message
each time. No calls, yet. Seems someone is screwing up badly. I thought the
group might want to know about more than one negative experience.

Same here--at least five calls, no response. I understand that the number
probably wants to be staffed by an answering machine for now, but a
callback or piece of e-mail saying what status is and whether to keep
calling would be nice.

Subject: AppleTalk Networking Forum, really

Hi Folks,

It is very encouraging that so many people want to become involved in
the ANF!!

I'm very sorry for the difficulties with the phone line, apparently
there is a misunderstanding which we must work out. In any case, here
is the current ANF status:

1) Unfortunately, membership packets are not ready yet. The by-laws
are about to go under legal scrutiny (since the ANF is a non-profit
corporation this has to be all nice and upright legalwise), which
hopefully will not take more than a couple of weeks at the most.

2) Since the phone does not seem to be functioning properly Garry
Hornbuckle, the AppleTalk Evangelist at Apple and one of the principal
drivers behind the ANF, has offered to maintain a list of folks who
are interested in participating. Please send e-mail to

	hornbuckle1@applelink.apple.com

and include the following information:

	name
	title
	company/organization of affiliation
	surface mail address
	electronic mail address
	voice phone number
	fax phone number
specific areas of interest or suggestions for technical topics
which you think the ANF should consider

3) How would folks feel about turning the current atalk-routing
mailing list into an ANF technical list? While the administrative
stuff is being worked out we can get rolling on some of the technical
things. The reason for using the atalk-routing list is that many of
the topics which the atalk-routing list was formed to discuss are
likely topics for the ANF (also, I manage the atalk-routing list and
have been closely involved in the ANF work so far so I can continue as
administrator). If anyone feels this is an unfair or unwise idea
please speak up in the next week or so, otherwise I will assume that
this is ok with the list membership. Thanks.

I encourage anyone who is interested in the ANF to e-mail Garry so we
can get membership information to you as soon as it's available.
Again, I apologize for the difficulties in making phone contact.

Thanks very much for your time and patience.

I just talked to Greg Vaudreil, IESG Secretary, and responsible for forwarding
drafts to the right people to make them into RFCs. For the SNMP over AppleTalk
draft, he said that there was a minor problem with the wording of the draft
(the basic 'nothing in this draft has anything to do about security' stuff) and
that the IESG worded that line correctly and gave the go ahead. He thinks that
the RFC number should be assigned within the next week.

At the last meeting, my WG Chair assured me that their was no problem. I
haven't seen any notices for any of the RFCs submitted by the group (I did see
last call notices...) I will inquire further.

AppleTalk Internet Router 3.0 (supports AURP) will ship next month.
What is the status of AURP?
Did it become RFC?
