Winston Dang supervised the combined INET 95 multicast & CU-SeeMe
reflector. It worked well. We are planning on doing the same at
SIGGRAPH from LA August 7-11 to disseminate exhibits in Interactive
Communities, particularly those relating to kids & education.

Discussions are in progress to tape/multicast/archive the entire
education/K-12 workshop and papers track at INET 96 in Montreal next
year. If this materializes we will be trying hard to enable remote
participation by teachers around the world. This year's education
track was really tremendous and I hope we can share this asset widely.

Multicast & CU-SeeMe from ISN WG Stockholm might help encourage others to set
up or get access to live audio/video connectivity.

all the best, Don

Jennifer, How about restating 4.7 to make it relate more directly
to School Networking? For example:

< 4.7 Can people get on the Internet from home? [considering
< deleting, but I'm just not sure; maybe it needs rewording]
-----
>	4.7 How can students, teachers, and parents gain access
>	to the school's information resources from home?

Basically, I would recommend finding the most cost effective commercial
ISP since that is the only strategy that scales effectively. It is also
another reason the school needs to be connected to the Internet full-time.

Some form of subsidy might be offered to needy teachers/students but
there is no way a school system can afford to install enough modems to
meet the demand of their constituencies. Even if they could it is
not clear that students/parents would not also want to use the Internet
for their own not-directly-school-related purposes.

Thanks,
