Hi,

I have submitted a new version of the NNTP search
draft. You can find it at:

	ftp://ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ballou-nntpsrch-03.txt

This is the draft that was discussed at the last IETF
working group meeting (Memphis, TN).

Cheers,

Nat

Until now, I was unaware that there was any working group meeting scheduled.
I would have thought that it would have been on the ietf-nntp list. Please
describe where you learned about this meeting.

Thanks.

I've been looking through this and have a query with the section about CHECK
and TAKETHIS. The draft doesn't say that the responses to these commands
must contain the message-id to which they pertain. I believe current
implementations *do* include the message ID. This is necessary if you are
going to do paralell processing of CHECK's as they can easily complete out
of order. It's also very handy so that you don't have to count the
commands out and responses back to match them up (which is probably the main
reason it was done this way).

That still did not reveal where the meeting information was posted.

And, there was a new version of the "current practices" in the ID repository
before the deadline. I guess no one noticed that (despite the fact that the
availability of that document was announced on the ietf-nntp list). Certainly,
no one bothered to inform me about this meeting.

It might be nice to post when these get-togethers are supposed to occur
so the community can participate...

The meeting was listed in the Memphis IETF agenda. After the
working group was created I think people assumed those who were
interested would know to look for the session.

I was checking the agenda regularly up until the Friday before IETF and
saw no such listing.

When was it posted there?

I remember seeing the NNTPEXT WG meeting listed weeks beforehand on the
on-line IETF agenda. It was also in the printed version handed out at
the signup at the IETF meeting.

This was just another a meeting of the NNTP working group. The BOF was
held at the Toronto (36) IETF and the first WG was held at the San Jose
(37) IETF. The existance of the group/effort has been listed in the
usual IETF spots as well as mentioned in several well travelled NNTP
related newsgroups.

Interesting. I wonder how I (and apparently some others) on this list
missed it. I also wonder why there is no mention of meeting on this list.
Or, is there some other more official mechanism for working group information
to be distributed other than the working group mailing list?

Anyone know any answers to this? Are there any official or unofficial minutes
from that meeting? Was Erik there?

Erik was there...as well as most of the usual NNTP crowd from prior
meeting. I think someone did take minutes, but you'd need to check with
Erik.

Okey. I will check with Erik.

I still don't know why there was no announcement on the mailing list.

Is your web site the best kept secret on the Internet?

We'll promote it to 50 search engines and indexes for $85
and complete the job in 2 business days. Satisfaction is
     guaranteed!

If you have a great product, but are not getting many inquiries from
your Web site, you may not be adequately listed on the Web's search

Millions of viewers daily use these facilities to find the products

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Generally, we complete the submissions within 48 hours of
receiving your order. It can take any individual search engine or

Kenneth,

I have removed the 421 response code and use an
empty response. This new draft will be posted
when I gather up a few more revisions.

I would like to get others comments on your XOVER
suggestion - what do others on the mailing list
think about this suggestion?

I prefer the empty return scheme. More for consistancy sake than
anything else. I imagine client will need to write additional protocol
handling code for search anyways so I don't think either is a real clear
techincal win.

The overview also contains the MID is the client wants to access it by
that, but then they lose the group context.
