Hi all,

This is is to announce a new version of ethload, the LAN monitor program
i mentioned earlier. Together with the author of the program we improved
the monitoring of CLNS traffic and it now even monitors TUBA!

Some features are:

monitoring of

- CLNS multicast addresses
- CLNS AFI values
- CLNS NSAPs (also in detail with IDI decoding!)
- SNPAs, Redirects, Hello messages
- Selector values (including TUBA)
- TUBA NSAPs (also in detail)
- TUBA TCP

Try it out and let me or the author know what you think!

His name is Eric Vyncke (email: vyncke@csl.sni.be)

The program is called ethld104-8.zip and can be found on the TUBA gopher
server: explorer.nsap.research.ptt.nl in the directory /tuba/software/pc
This server is also accessible through anonymous FTP or anon FTAM.

- Alex

Hi All,

I am sorry if you get this mail several times, but it is important enough
to justify this.

After seeing all these mails about the routing of CLNS in 1994 and after
consulting appropriate persons at EuropaNET, it seems logical to clear
up some things. That's why i send you this mail. This mail is meant as a
summary of other mails and will present my view of the routing as i
think will satisfy everybody. If this is not the case, please let me
know.

Currently there are the following European CLNS networks that want
connectivity to the U.S:

SWITCH Switzerland
IRIS Spain
FUNET Finland
SURFnet The Netherlands
ARIADNE Greece
UNINETT Norway
WIN Germany
SURFnet pilot	The Netherlands
PTT Research	The Netherlands
INFN Italy
HEPnet comm.	Switzerland
INRIA France

At present, the following networks are NOT directly connected to EuropaNET:

INFN Italy
HEPnet comm. Switzerland
INRIA France

Considering this situation, i agree with Denise that it is best to share
the load over the two links to ESnet. EuropaNET therefore likes to accept
the offer from WIN and ESnet to route EuropaNET traffic over their link.
Currently, EuropaNET is working on a direct connection to Washington, but
this link will be IP only for the time being.

So, what i propose is this:

INFN, HEPnet and INRIA use the link INFN-ESnet for US traffic and announce
only their prefixes to ESnet. All the other networks can then use the
link WIN-ESnet. These latter networks being: SWITCH, IRIS, FUNET, SURFnet,
ARIADNE, UNINETT, WIN, SURFnet Pilot and PTT Research. If anyone does not
agree with this proposal, please let me know.

Guido, when using this topology, you will have to announce the following
prefixes to ESnet:

SWITCH 39.756f.1111
IRIS 39.724f.1001
FUNET 39.246f
		47.0023.0000.0001
		47.0023.0000.0003
		47.0023.0000.0007
SURFnet 39.528f.1100 (includes SURFnet pilot and PTT Research)
ARIADNE 39.300f.1001
UNINETT 47.0023.0000.0005
WIN 39.276f.3100
EuropaNET	39.528f.1103

US prefixes you have to route TO are:

47.0004 NBS OSI network
47.0005 USA FED GOV OSI NETWORK (includes ALTERNET)
39.124f Canada

EuropaNET has to retain the static route to INFN/HEPnet (47.0020), but has
to switch the routes to the US to point to WIN. These prefixes are:
47.0004, 47.0005 and 39.124f.

I am at loss where INRIA is concerned. Can somebody explain what their
connectivity will look like?

Could everybody concerned please confirm this proposal or state his/hers
objections? If everybody agrees we will only have to set a date for this
major change (before next year!)

- Alex

You probably ought to add 39.840f (U.S.).

As some of the prefixes in the list are already routed through the
ICMnet links to NORDUnet, wich is WORKING, I don't understand what
Alex is trying to do..

On the other hand it might work anyhow, as ESnet already routes this to
ICMnet...

For the following prefixes, CNLP servis from the US side should be
routed through one of the following boxes;

MAE-East, ICM-DC-1.ICP.NET	47.0023.0001.0000.0000.0002.0002.1921.5706.5057

Hi all,

after I have got the mails from Alex, Becca, Richard and Peter, I
want to summarize the new routing situation:

The ESnet should use the following NSAP-Prefixes to route to Europe
over the link ESnet/WiN:

	- SWITCH (Switzerland)

		39.756F.1111

	- IRIS (Spain)

		39.724F.1001

	- SURFnet (The Netherlands)
	  SURFnet pilot (The Netherlands)
	  PTT Research (The Netherlands)

		39.528F.1100

	- ARIADNE (Greece)

		39.300F.1001

	- WiN (Germany)

		39.276F.3100

	- FUNET (Finland)

		39.246F

(Peter Lothberg mentioned, that the other prefixes are already
routed via the ICMnet to NORDUnet. So is it OK to route only
the above prefix over the ESnet/WiN link?)

ESnet has to switch these routes to Europe to point to WiN.

INFN, HEPnet and INRIA use the link ESnet/INFN for US traffic and announce
only their prefixes to ESnet.

On the other hand, we (WiN) use the following NSAP prefixes to route to US
over the link WiN/ESnet:

	- NBS OSI network

		47.0004

	- USA FED GOV OSI NETWORK (includes ALTERNET)

		47.0005

	- USA

		39.840F

(Richard Colella mentioned to include this prefix)

	- Canada

		39.124F

EuropaNET has to switch these routes to the US to point to WiN.

Is this a correct summarize of the situation for the routing in 1994?
I would recommend a cut-over date of DEC 29 12.00am (Wednesday). If we
do so we have a few more days to clarify the above situation.
Do you all agree to this?

All the best and a merry christmas!!

   Guido

I checked this, and Finland should also be routed through
Funet/NORDUnet, so the following should go to ICMnet on behalf of
NORDUnet;

47.0023.0001.0000 ICMnet+Ebone
47.0023.0000.0001 NORDUnet backbone
47.0023.0000.0002 DK
47.0023.0000.0003 FI
47.0023.0000.0004 IS
47.0023.0000.0005 NO
47.0023.0000.0006 SE
47.0023.0000.0007 DECnet-fasV
39.752f.0100.0014 Stupi (part of SE DCC)
39.246f FI DCC

Merry X-Mas, Peter

(Ps: As ICM/EBone/Nordunet/Sprintlink are doing dynamic routing using
I-ISIS internally and ISO-IGRP with filters as a 'IDRP'
replacement, I would suggest that a ISO-IGRP session is added
between the Dante-GW and EBS in London. (As Amsterdam has not
     configured I-ISIS))

For as far I can check: yes.

Without further notice we will switch our routes next wednesday at 12.00am.
